Classic Lanes and OUCARES launch bowling league for persons with autism and autism spectrum disorders
Our friends at Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills have teamed up with OUCARES (Oakland University Center for Autism Research, Education and Support) to form a bowling league for individuals ages 16-plus on the autism spectrum. This opportunity will allow ASD students (over 16) and adults to enhance physical activity in a social, community setting.
The nine-week bowling league will begin April 14th, 2012 and run through June 16th (no session on May 26th). No bowling experience is necessary to participate. The bowling games run from 10a-noon. The cost of the bowling league is $45. The parent/caregiver will need to remain with the bowler if one on one assistance is required. There will be a 3:1 ratio of staff to bowlers.
The $45 cost for the autism spectrum (ASD) bowling league includes:
- 2 games of bowling each week
- free use of bowling ball
- free bowling shoes rental
- awards party at the end of the season
- 3:1 ratio of staff to bowlers
This is the first year for the bowling league for autism spectrum bowlers. Classic Lanes and OUCARES have stated that they want the new league to start small and be successful before expanding. The OUCARES vision for the bowling league is to have it eventually fill all 32 Classic Lanes bowling lanes!
