Southfield Public Library is offering several events for toddlers, kids and teens throughout the month.

Youth Programs

Story Times
Registration is not required for Story Times. Drop in on the day(s) you would like to attend.

Baby Bounce Story Time

This program introduces books to the very young with simple stories, songs, finger plays, social interaction and playing.
Who:  6 - 18 month olds with caregiver
When:  Wednesdays at 10:00 am
No story times scheduled for June
Where: Space Station Program Room

Toddler Story Time

Toddlers will hear stories, learn finger plays, develop social interaction skills and enjoy free-play time. Limited to 25 toddlers per session.
Who:  1 ½ - 3 year olds, with caregiver
When:  Tuesdays at 10:00 am
No story times scheduled for June
Where: Space Station Program Room

Preschool Story Time

Preschoolers will enjoy fun stories, learn finger plays and sing songs.
Who:  3 - 5 year olds not yet in kindergarten, with caregiver
When:  Thursdays at 10:00 am
No story times scheduled for June
Where: Space Station Program Room

School-Age

Bookworm Bunch

Bookworm Bunch is more than a story time. It helps children improve reading comprehension in a fun and exciting way with a story, beginning book discussion, craft project and science experiment!

Who:  Kindergartners - 3rd graders
When:  No Bookworm Bunch times scheduled for June
Where: Space Station Program Room

Reading Dogs with Angel & Kola

Come and read to the dogs! The Reading Dogs, Angel & Kola, would love to hear you read. They are therapy dogs who are very friendly and will patiently listen while you read them a story. One to three children can sign up for each half-hour time slot to read to Angel or Kola. Register beginning Tuesday, January 3 at the Youth Reference Desk.
Who:  Kindergartners - 4th graders
When:  No event scheduled for June

Summer Reading Programs
Join us for the Southfield Public Library Summer Library Program Dream Big – READ! This reading enrichment program is for children who live or attend school in Southfield or Lathrup Village. Registration begins on Friday, June 1 and ends Monday, July 9 at the Youth Services Desk. Children must be present to register. Each child will receive a record to keep track of their independent reading. When they complete their reading record, they will be invited to the Final Party at the end of the summer. Registered children may also attend all of the programs listed below.

Summer Library Program Kick Off with The Little Creatures
Join us as we celebrate the official kick-off of the Dream Big – Read! Summer Library Program with a visit from lots of nocturnal and creepy creatures.
When: Monday, June 11 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm

Family Dinner Theatre and Movie Night

My Neighbor Totoro
Bring your blanket and dinner and join us for an adventurous tale of a girl and the mysterious neighbor she finds in the forest - Totoro. Rated G

Teen Programs

Junior Library Board

Help the Library better serve you and your friends! We are looking for teens who live or go to school in Southfield or Lathrup Village and will jump in and help improve the Library by:
• Suggesting materials for the Young Adult collection
• Recommending program ideas you and your friends will enjoy
• Assisting with a variety of projects that positively impact the Library, its staff and the entire community
• Helping the Library make your visit the best possible
Who:  6th - 12th graders
When:  No Junior Lirbrary Board Scheduled for June
Where: Meeting Room

Teen Summer Reading Game
Read great books, try fun activities and win prizes galore! Grand prizes include $50 gift cards to Foot Locker and Target!
For 6th – 12th graders who live or go to school in South¬field or Lathrup Village. Registration begins on Friday, June 1st at the Youth Service Desk. The last day to register is Friday, July 27 and the last day to be eligible for the grand prize raffle is Saturday, August 18.

Wii Game On!
Take turns playing your favorite Wii games. Enjoy board and card games before and after your Wii fun!
Who: 6th - 12th graders
When: Mondays June 4 & 18 from 4:00 – 5:30 pm

Buy a bag for $3.00 & fill it with all the books you can! Or get an even better deal and buy 2 bags for $5.00. Sale will be in the Tower lobby.

Donations in good condition are accepted year round. Please place books in the book chute by the Circulation Desk along with magazines not older than three months. Do not put audio visual materials down the chute; hand them to staff at the desk. Take large donations to the loading dock on the north side of the Library. Your donations keep our book sales successful!
