Bloomfield Public Library offers several events each month for toddlers, children, teens and families throughout the month.

April 14, Saturday from 9:30am – 3:30 pm: Friends of the Library Super Second Saturday Sale! (First hour for Friends’ members only). Held in the Friends’ area in the Lower Level.
April 14, Saturday at 11 am: Family Story Times. No registration required. Drop-in for a story time filled with tales, rhymes, movement and more for the entire family, all ages welcome.
April 16, Monday at 10 & 11 am: Tot Tales. Registration required. Stories, rhymes, music and more for young listeners, ages 2-3 years, with a loving adult. Children must have celebrated their second birthday by the first day of the session.
April 17, Tuesday at 10 am: Just Us Kids. Registration required. Story time for independent listeners, 3-6 years old, without an adult.
April 17, Tuesday at 2 pm: Just Us Kids. Registration required. Story time for independent listeners, 3-6 years old, without an adult.
April 18, Wednesday at 10 am: Cradle Club. Registration required. A warm introduction to the Library through stories, rhymes, finger plays and music for our youngest listeners, ages 6-16 months, with their special adult.
April 18, Wednesday at 6:30 pm: PJ Theater. Registration is not required. Movies, puppet shows, and live theater…every night is different. Join us for a family fun night once a month. We provide the show and you bring snacks. Come in your PJ’s too!
April 19, Thursday at 10 am: Mother Goose Club. Registration required. Simple stories, nursery rhymes, finger plays, music and movement for toddlers, ages 16-24 months, with a favorite adult.
April 20, Friday at 10 am: Coffee and Conversation. No registration is required. Looking for an excuse to get out of the house? Join friends and neighbors for a hot cup of coffee and some great conversation.
April 20, Friday from 4:30-5:15 pm: Friday Family Fun Yoga. Registration required. This series, designed for kids ages 4-8 years (inclusive of children with special needs) and their favorite adult, will include yoga poses, breathing, and visualizations. These classes will inspire and support children in developing self-esteem, fitness, concentration, focus and self-awareness, all while having fun! Classes taught by Belightful Yoga instructors. Please bring a mat for everyone participating.
April 20, Friday at 7:30 pm: Chamber Concert Series. No registration required. Enjoy performances by talented students from the University of Michigan School of Music, Dance, and Theatre. Sponsored by our generous Friends of the Library.
April 21, Saturday at 11 am: Sensory Saturday: Sensory Story Time. No registration required. Join us one Saturday morning a month for an interactive sensory story time or sensory-friendly movie. Children with different needs and their families are welcome! Stimming children are welcome! Kids who have a hard time sitting still are welcome! (Geared for preschool age – developmentally).
April 24, Tuesday from 1-3 pm: Memoir Writers’ Group. Registration is required and open to everyone. Share stories about your life and learn creative life writing from other people who are also working on their personal histories. Guidelines for the group are available at each meeting.
April 24, Tuesday from 4-5 pm: Teen Advisory Board. We are looking for motivated teens that would like to help develop and plan library events, select books, movies, music and games for the Library’s Teen Collection, and create flyers, blogs, bibliographies and more. Pick up your TAB application at the Adult Services Desk.
April 24, Tuesday from 5-6 pm: Teen Book Discussion: The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare. Registration required. Teens are invited to discuss Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince. Copies of Clockwork Prince will be available at the Adult Services Desk beginning March 27.
April 24, Tuesday at 7 pm: BTPL Board of Trustees meeting. All are welcome to attend. This meeting will be held in the Board Room on the main floor of the library.
April 25, Wednesday: Cradle Club will NOT be held today.
April 25, Wednesday from 9 am to 4 pm: Adaptive Umbrella – Serving Kids with Different Needs. Registration required. A day-long workshop focusing on current topics in Special Needs, for adults working with you that have special needs. Please contact Youth Services for more information and to register.
April 25, Wednesday at 7 pm: Writers’ Rendezvous. Registration is not required. Come be a part of this ongoing workshop for fiction and non-fiction writers. All interested writers are welcome to attend. The group meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Details are available at the library and online through our website.

April 30, Monday from 6:30-8:30 pm: Sustainable Landscapes and Rainwater Recycling with Rick Lazzell. Pre-registration preferred. Rick Lazzell, who has more than 30 years of experience in the "green industry," will give an overview of responsible and sustainable landscape design. Program co-sponsored by SOCWA, Southeastern Oakland County Water Authority. Registration and exhibits open at 6:00 p.m. Pre-registration preferred - register online or by calling SOCWA at 248-288-5150.
Be a Star Reader! Starting Monday, May 7 through Saturday, May 12 visit the library and have your photo taken with your favorite book in celebration of Children’s Book Week. Bring a copy of your favorite book to the Youth Services Department. All participants will have their names entered into a special drawing. 20 lucky Star Readers will have their photos featured on READ posters that are displayed monthly at the Library. No registration required.
May 1, Tuesday from 10-11:30 am: Knit N’ Stitch Circle. No registration required. Join us for monthly meetings where you can find other people who enjoy needlework and knitting.

May 1, Tuesday from 2-4 pm: Tuesdays at the Movies: “The Long Hot Summer” (1958) - not rated. No registration required. On the first Tuesday of each month, the Library offers you an opportunity to watch a classic movie and enjoy a bag of popcorn, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Mark the date and bring a friend.

Bring in the single partner of your missing socks and find a new use for them. We will speculate on the fate of the socks that never come back from the laundry while we have crafts and activities with the remainders. Drop-in fun for all ages.
May 9, Wednesday from 7-8:30 pm: Pet Planning Made Simple. No registration required. Learn how to care for your pets’ future care and happiness. Pet trusts and estate plans are simple to do, and you owe it to your pet. Robert Kass, co-author of “Who Will Care when You’re Not There?” will present. Copies of the book will be available to purchase.

May 12, Saturday from 1-3 pm: “Paws” for Reading. Registration required. Reading is going to the dogs! School-aged children are invited to come and read to therapy dogs for a “paws”-ative reading experience. Sign-up with Youth Services for your special reading time.
May 15, Tuesday at 7 pm: BTPL Board of Trustees meeting. All are welcome to attend. This meeting will be held in the Board Room on the main floor of the library.
May 16, Wednesday from 10 am to Noon: Book Talk on Gauguin. No registration required. Join librarian Karen Imarisio for a book talk about the life of Gauguin. “Gauguin – The Quest for Paradise” by Francoise Cachin.

May 17, Thursday at 7 pm: Boy Soldier: Coming of Age during World War II. No registration required. Celebrate Armed Forces Week with this acclaimed memoir of going into combat at age 18. Mr. McLogan will talk about his experiences as a young soldier thrown into the Pacific theater. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing.

May 19, Saturday at 11 am: Sensory Saturday: Sensory-Friendly Movie. No registration required. Can’t sit still in the theater? Especially sensitive to loud sounds? Join us for a “sensory-friendly” movie morning! Open to all families with children that have “different needs,” including those with autism, Down syndrome, AD/HD, sensory-processing disorder, cognitive impairments, and other special needs.
